The Florida Conservation Land Acquisitions (FCLA) dashboard

Published on August 8, 2024

Congratulations to the Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) on their release of the Corridor Dashboard in partnership with Live Wildly and Archbold Biological Station. The Florida Conservation Land Acquisitions dashboard quantifies acreage, funding types and sources, owner types, and easement holders. Check out these details from Nathan Pasco below.

We are pleased to share a new tool developed by the Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) to help track progress on the statewide land conservation, especially in the Florida Wildlife Corridor.

The Florida Conservation Land Acquisitions (FCLA) dashboard is available at the above link.  The product was developed in response to a need for up-to-date, consistent reporting of acreage conserved in the Corridor and statewide. The FCLA still includes some delay from the time of a transaction to its inclusion in the database and requires that agencies and NGOs respond to FNAI’s regular data calls, but having a known source should help resolve inconsistencies in acreage reported. Users of the dashboard should note that it only includes closed transactions; it does not include, for instance, items approved by the State’s Board of Trustees for acquisition, but not yet closed on.

The new FCLA dashboard quantifies acreage, funding types and sources, owner types, and easement holders.  The graphs on each side dynamically update with map scrolling and zooming and it is possible to filter by county, funding source, and other variables. FCLA includes fee simple acquisitions, conservation easements, exchanges, and donations. Currently, it includes transactions that occurred since January 2021, 6 months prior to the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act’s passage. Funding for development of the database was generously provided by Live Wildly and supported by Archbold Biological Station.

The FCLA is also available from FNAI’s homepage (www.fnai.org) under Highlights, and additionally under Conservation Lands Overview.
